If I double-click on the extension point I receive an error message (see screenshot). The hyperlinks (highlighted in the screenshot) works correctly. 

This is not Eclipse 3.6 specific (you can also reproduce in in Eclipse 3.5)).

Maybe this is bug 277559 , can't really tell without the screenshot

This occurs when the plugin.xml hasn't been saved so the model hasn't been updated with the new schema yet.  Saving the file then double clicking should work.  This problem occurs in links as well.
