According to bug 211329 (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=211329), GeneratedValue's may be specified on non-ID mappings (Basic,EmbeddedId).  There is no evidence of this being allowed in the EclipseLink documentation for GeneratedValue usage, nor when and how it would be appropriate.
