Description Elias Volanakis CLA 2010-05-21 15:29:29 EDT
E4 is getting a technology called "deep-linking", which allows URLs embedded in web pages to:

- start a local RCP application
- invoke code in a local RCP application (and if the app is not running, it can be started)

We should evaluate this technology for use in Riena.

Comment 2 Stefan Liebig CLA 2011-08-02 08:27:24 EDT
I had a brief look at what I could find about this feature. My observations:
- the bugzilla mentioned in comment 1 is still in state NEW! What does that mean?
- there is a wiki entry to "deep linking" http://wiki.eclipse.org/E4/Deeplinking. This entry makes me feel "frightened". It mentions registry file entry (*.reg) that has to be "applied" in order to register a "launcher proxy", which is a headless RCP app. And so forth...
- it is not clear to me if this is technique is widely adopted

However, I think that "deep linking" is an interesting feature and we should follow its progress.
