Start with a 1.0 Generic project with a persistence.xml and orm.xml file.
Change the JPA facet version to 2.0 and select the 2.0 Generic platform.
When you finish the wizard notice that no "info" appears on the orm.xml or persistence.xml that a more recent version of the document is available.
Running Validation or cleaning the project will make the "infos" appear.

Verified when you update a JPA 1.0 project that contains an orm.xml file, to a JPA 2.0/Generic 2.0 project 2 "info" messages appear in problem pane for orm.xml and presistence.xml. See the link to view test steps for verification.
