On the Plug-ins view if you right click on a plug-in you will get the option to Import As.  The options are Binary Project, Binary Project with Linked Content and Source Project.  I think there should be an option to import the project from a repository assuming the Eclipse-SourceReferences header is specified in the plug-in manifest.
