Hi Denis,

At the EclipseCon you mentioned that you could setup a vserver for us that we can use to

a) demo CDO model repositories to users with Java or web clients,
b) investigate how to employ CDO for modeling, storing and distributing foundation data like the projects N&N.

What parameters would you need to set this thing up?
Comment 1 Denis Roy CLA 2010-05-07 14:35:08 EDT
Everything I say at EclipseCon is null and void the minute I walk out of the Hyatt.

Seriously, I'll check if we have any available slots and I'll set you up. RAM is usually the biggest constraint -- would 1G be enough?
Comment 2 Eike Stepper CLA 2010-05-07 14:43:38 EDT
Thank you, Denis.

Regarding the 1GB RAM, I think we can start with it and then see if it works. Would it be possible to increase it later on?

I'm polling the existing owners of idle vservers, to see if they are still needed. If ECF doesn't need theirs, I can give you 1.5G. If RAP doesn't need theirs, I can give you 1.6G. Beyond that, I'd need to buy RAM, and in these old-ish machines, it's fairly expensive :(

Let me try it before even thinking about spending more money ;-)
Comment 5 Denis Roy CLA 2010-05-10 16:18:56 EDT
I've provisioned your vserver -- details should already be sitting in your inbox.

Thank you Denis! I received the email and am able to ssh to the new vserver. Starting to play with it now...
Comment 7 Eike Stepper CLA 2010-05-11 13:11:42 EDT
Hi Denis,

I already had a CDO repository up and running. It's so cool.

Then, all of a sudden I could not connect via ssh anymore. Pings from build.eclipse.org are coming back. Any idea?
Comment 8 Denis Roy CLA 2010-05-11 13:22:39 EDT
I can ssh from an eclipse.org server's shell, but not from the outside. Did you tweak a local firewall rule? I don't have the root password so I can't check.
Comment 9 Andre Dietisheim CLA 2010-05-25 11:40:25 EDT
Hi Denis

looks like the firewall is blocking all SSH access. Connecting from dev.eclipse.org's still possible though. Could you please disable that firewall?

Thanks!
André
Comment 10 Andre Dietisheim CLA 2010-05-25 11:48:19 EDT
shall I send you the root-pw?
Comment 11 Denis Roy CLA 2010-05-25 13:39:27 EDT
If you can connect from dev.eclipse.org, then you can likely fix this yourself, no?

I'd much rather you fix the local firewall to allow incoming SSH requests from known subnets (rather than disabling it) to reduce the risk of a server compromise.
Comment 12 Andre Dietisheim CLA 2010-05-27 04:16:19 EDT
I currently cannot ssh from dev.eclipse.org to cdo.eclipse.org (Eike did connect, not me), my connection to dev.eclipse.org gets closed. According to the login text I shall ask you for a real shell. Could you please get me one on dev.eclipse.org?
