The workbench mechanism provided for this is Save Perspective: http://help.eclipse.org/indigo/index.jsp?topic=%2Forg.eclipse.platform.doc.user%2FgettingStarted%2Fqs-43e.htm Once you have saved the changes you like to your perspective, opening a new window and a new perspective will provide the same configuration. PW This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. As such, we're closing this bug. If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it and reopen this bug. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant. -- The automated Eclipse Genie. |
Build Identifier: 20090619-0625 When one opens up a new window from within Eclipse ("Window > New Window"), the new window does not have the same configuration settings as the existing window. Specifically, all the perspective settings (toolbar buttons enabled/disabled, etc.), view placements, etc. are reset to their defaults. Furthermore, whichever window you now close last overwrites the global workbench settings. So if you happen to close the newly spawned window after you close the original window, all the customizations you did to your workbench are lost. This thread describes the exact behavior I'm seeing: http://dev.eclipse.org/newslists/news.eclipse.platform/msg09012.html Unfortunately, this thread is from 2003 and the issue still doesn't appear to have been fixed. With multiple display monitor configurations becoming normal for developers now, I think this issue gains priority. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Window > New Window menu item 2. Observe that the settings for the new window don't match the existing window 3. Close the old window 4. Close the new window 5. Restart eclipse 6. Observe that all your workspace settings have been reverted to the default.
