Shortcuts to Eclipse 3.6M6 that don't work
In the attached pics, the 3 eclipse taskbar icons on the left point to eclipse 3.6M5 and the 3 on the right to eclipse 3.6M6. Notice that when all 3 on the right are launched that there is a 4th icon on the taskbar that groups all 3 launches and has info for the java process. For once I owe Windows an apology because I was sure a windows update had done me in. Andrew, has anything changed in the launcher that could have caused this problem ? Binyan, can you go to Help -> About -> Installation Details -> Configuration and look for the -vm and the path on the line below it (This is part of the eclipse.commands property, whose value is split over multiple lines). Is this the same for both M5 & M6? If this path is to a javaw.exe, you might find better behaviour by editing the eclipse.ini and setting a path to the jvm.dll instead of the .exe: -vm C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_07\bin\client\jvm.dll Also, is there any difference if you remove the -name Eclipse from the eclipse.ini file? New icon when using jvm.dll
The -vm arg for 3.6M6 and 3.6M5 are the same:
-vm
C:\jdk1.6.x\bin\javaw.exe
When referring directly to the jvm.dll there is one difference where the new icon that shows on the taskbar is labeled as eclipse.exe now instead of the java process (see attached png).
Also there is no "-name Eclipse" args in the eclipse.ini file. Here is my eclipse.ini file:
-startup
plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.1.0.v20100307.jar
--launcher.library
plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.win32.win32.x86_1.1.0.v20100307
-showsplash
org.eclipse.platform
--launcher.XXMaxPermSize
256m
--launcher.defaultAction
openFile
-vm
C:/jdk1.6.x/jre/bin/client/jvm.dll
-vmargs
-Xms512m
-Xmx768m
Is this bug to be addressed since time is running out for the current release? no. I don't know what the problem is, but I don't believe p2 is the right place for this bug. I don't have a vista or windows 7 machine myself. Moving to framework for now. The only launcher changes in M5 were for opening files: bug 4922, bug 178927, and friends. However, in the launcher itself there is no difference if no file is being specified on the command line to be opened. I suspect something changed in the workbench or in swt, perhaps in support of the file open stuff. This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
