Switching between details panes flashes too much. It looks like the layout is done twice: first the old details pane is removed ==> tree grows, then the new pane is created and everything relayouted.

I see two ways to fix this:
1. use a PageBook and simply switch between the pages
2. disable redraw while replacing the pane
