Patch will also be applied to 3.5.2, and 3.6 HEAD, although in HEAD the metadata.generator is going away so it doesn't matter so much there.

Note that in 3.5.2 this is not a problem on export, only in a headless build.

Looks good to me. This is just backporting some code we've had in the 3.6 stream for awhile now.
