Description Eric Rizzo CLA 2009-12-29 09:47:20 EST
The forums software has two options for replying to a message, Reply and Quote. In general, it is usually better to quote at least part of the message that is being replied to, so that the context is preserved for those reading only the reply. This is especially important in NNTP newsgroups where the earlier messages may not be easily at-hand.
It would be nice if the Quote button were made more prominent (bigger button, placed ahead of Reply, etc), or if FUDForum could be configured to automatically quote when the user hits Reply. Perhaps also a more descriptive name for the Quote button, such as "Reply with Quote."

Should we perhaps remove the Reply button, and replace it with Reply with Quote?
Comment 2 Denis Roy CLA 2010-01-05 14:28:13 EST
Or, perhaps even easier, we just delete the Quote option, and the Reply button quotes automatically?

That would be my preference (it's what Bugzilla just did when I hit [Reply]).

We won't be investing any resources into this aspect of our infra, as it is either deprecated, or it will be soon.

We encourage projects to migrate to GitHub or Eclipse GitLab (https://gitlab.eclipse.org).
