Description David Green CLA 2009-11-13 15:30:09 EST
Bugzilla "bug 509152":https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=509152 (line breaks erroneously present in bug xml) has an adverse effect on Mylyn users (see bug 286041)

Please update bugs.eclipse.org to include the fix for this bug.

In what capacity is this bug a 'major' problem with our Bugzilla instance?

I just accepted the default severity when creating a subtask in Mylyn. It probably got 'major' from bug 286041, which was marked as such. I'm not sure what your severity criteria are -- feel free to change the severity as you see fit.

As far as impact of this issue on Mylyn users, here's what I've noticed:

* bug hyperlinking and stack trace hyperlinking sometimes don't work
* formatting of bug reports takes much more screen real-estate (sometimes 2x)
* presentation is adversely affected, making bug reports harder to understand

It may sound trivial but all of these things create friction in an already tough job.
It would be great if we could get this fix into eclipse.org and have bugzilla work as well as it used to before the upgrade.

Mik, you're probably interested in being CC'd here, since this has an effect on all Mylyn users that access bugs.eclipse.org

Yes, this is an annoying problem and causes Mylyn users to inadvertently submit badly-formatted bugs, eg, bug 295273.

When Bugzilla 3.4.3 gets released (with this fix) I'll upgrade to it.

That's fantastic! As it happens, 3.4.3 was released November 5th! http://www.bugzilla.org/news/#release343

You can find out more here: http://www.bugzilla.org/releases/3.4.3/

Shows how little I know! I'll do the upgrade this weekend. I think there's a mod_perl memory leak that is fixed too.
Comment 8 David Green CLA 2009-12-03 10:53:25 EST
Denis, just a quick reminder that we're eagerly awaiting the upgrade.

We're now running Bugzilla 3.4.4.

The formatting still looks bad. Line breaks are inserted for no apparent reason. See for instance bug 297713 (reported today).

Thomas could it be that you're referring to the web UI? This bug was about fixing line-wrap for clients that access bugzilla via the API, not the web.

I agree that the web UI is problematic wrt line-wrap. It used to be that CSS was used to line wrap. I'm not sure why this was changed. Now everything's wrapped in a <pre>

As far as the remote API goes, everything looks good to me. I use Mylyn to access bugzilla and now it's receiving text (comments, descriptions, etc) without server-injected line-wrap. I recommend we resolve this one as fixed (since the original request was completed (Thanks Denis!)

Yes, I was referring to the web-UI. Didn't realize that this was something very different. I opened bug 297755.
