Description Pavel Samolisov CLA 2009-10-29 13:27:40 EDT
ICQ/AOL is the protocol that is used by many millions people in Russia, East Europe, Latin America and others regions. I with my frends developed own OSCAR realization: http://code.google.com/p/caffeineim/ This realization is based on the JOscarLib and includes UTF-8/cp1251, X-Statuses, Meta information and search users support.

I would like create Oscar container for ECF and I make this enhancement request for discuss this topic.

Thanks.

I think this is a fine idea, and am all in favor...and could even do it myself...but before committing to it some resources/support for it will need to be found, as at least I (Scott) cannot commit to doing it short of some overt support (and/or contributions from community).

But again I think it's a fine idea...and perhaps more doable today than in the past. I'll be resolving bug 146646 as a duplicate of this bug.

Note that we have the beginnings of such an AIM/AOL provider already in the CVS repository at http://ecf1.osuosl.org in plugins/org.eclipse.ecf.provider.aim (based upon Jaim...but this is easily changed).

Very cool!

Have you considered donating the project to Eclipse ECF and have it hosted at
Eclipse.org?

Do you have a release yet?

Chris, I'm planning hosted it on code.google.com becouse I do not have commits rights on Eclipse.org. Also, I do not have a release of ECF Provider, but I have a release of OSCAR library.

Hi Pavel. Although hosting on code.google.com is fine, if you wish you can/could host it on ecf1.osuosl.org (ECF's server at the OSU Open Source Lab)...which I administer...so I can create an account for you.

Further...again if you wish...you can/could contribute things to the Eclipse Foundation, and while going through IP review the code can be worked on by you, me, others at OSU Open Source lab...as well as built and deployed with the ECF builder.

And, if you wish and the other committers agree, you could become an ECF committer.

So it's up to you. If you wish to have an extssh account on ECF's osuosl CVS server, please let me (Scott) know.

Hello, Scott

Yes, I would like to have an account on ECF's osuosl CVS server. I will thank you create the account for me.

This is an enhancement. Moving to that category.

ICQ/AOL support seems sort of irrelevant now. If this is not correct, and there is sufficient interest and contributions/resources to continue work on an ICQ/AOL provider then please reopen. For reference, the existing impl of an AOL provider exists here:
