PreferencePage.createControl should not do
layout.makeColumnsEqualWidth= true;
for the button (Default, Apply) composite

ISV's may add more buttons and they may be wide.
Implementors are responsible for ensuring that
their buttons have a minimum width and this is enough
to make all the buttons the same width in most cases.

Have you received complaints about the current behavior? Any changes would need 
to be made in a non breaking way
