Eclipse created a ~/workspace/ directory. I really dislike that, because the
home dir (excluding dotfiles there) is IMHO my personal space and to be managed
manually by me, for the files I use myself.
There were no files in that dir that I needed/edited myself (no C++ source
etc.), so I blew it away. I thought it were just the default path for projects.
I lost all my project settings by that action.

Please store all app-global settings (preferences and path to project settings)
in ~/.eclipse/ and all project settings in the project directory I specified
wduring creation of the individual projects. You may offer
~/workspace/<projectname> as default project dir, but create ~/workspace/ only
as needed.

A short-term workaround would be to make the dir configurable.
