Does the splash screen ever show up? If yes, does it ask you for your workspace?

Do you know which JRE you are using to start Eclipse?

What versions of XULRunner and Firefox do you have installed?

How did you install Eclipse? Did you get it through yum? If you download Eclipse from eclipse.org does it work?

- splash screen shows up
- it asks me for a workspace
- I have the openJDK installed
- Firefox version 3.5 beta 4
- XUL runner version 1.9.1 beta 4
- I installed it from eclipse website

Anything in your workspace's log file? If you don't know where that is, it's <workspace-name>/.metadata/.log.

Based on the current diagnosis, I believe the problem is with your beta version of XULRunner. You will have to install a 1.8 or 1.9 version of XULRunner and try telling Eclipse to use that instead to workaround the problem.

http://www.eclipse.org/swt/faq.php#specifyxulrunner

Ultimately, your problem is identical to bug 213194 except that instead of 1.9's beta being the problem it's now 1.9.1's beta.
Comment 6 Andrew Overholt CLA 2009-06-10 18:48:01 EDT
In our Fedora packages, we patch SWT to build and run against the XULRunner we ship.

I think bug 268651 is the closest existing bug to what you're seeing, so marking as a duplicate.

To make this work you need to use Fedora's update to turn your xulrunner 1.9.1 beta install into the final xulrunner 1.9.1 release, and use the eclipse 3.4.2 that ships with Fedora 11 (not the one downloaded from eclipse.org) since it's patched to work with this xulrunner version.

Alternatively, eclipse 3.5 (from eclipse.org) should work with xulrunner 1.9.1.
