Description Mike Morearty CLA 2009-05-23 13:02:56 EDT
Build ID: I20090515-1143

Steps To Reproduce:
It seems that the Mac versions of the pre-bundled Eclipse packages, such as "Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers" and so on, are only available for Cocoa, and are not available for Carbon.

This is a major problem for us (Adobe). The Mac version of Flash Builder 4 (formerly Flex Builder) only works on Carbon. For those users who want to install Flash Builder into an their pre-existing Eclipse environment, this makes installation quite a bit more difficult. For one thing, the first thing many people will probably do is download the Cocoa version, and then run our installer, which will give them an error message. But even if they then go back and try to download the Carbon version, they are going to find it much more difficult than just a single-click download. They are going to have to find the Carbon version of the bare-bones Eclipse, download it, and then install additional components into it, e.g. WTP or whatever else they need; but many users aren't really sure what else they need. E.g. "I just want the Java EE package, but I have no idea what extra features I am supposed to add to the bare-bones Eclipse in order to get that."

Repro steps:

1. On a Mac, go to http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/
2. Click "Development Builds"
3. Hover the mouse over the links for any of the prepackaged distros, e.g. "Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers" and so on
4. Explore other Eclipse 3.5 download locations

Actual result:
The Mac versions of the prepackaged distros seem to be availble only for Cocoa, not Carbon. The only way to get Carbon, I think, is to install just the base version of Eclipse.

See bug 277287.
Comment 2 Kim Moir CLA 2009-05-23 14:47:55 EDT
The EPP builds are built by the packaging project, not platform releng.
