You can use ctrl-click to close the editor. Currently there is a flicker issue which is being addressed by bug 27668. Is that mechanism sufficient, or do you believe the 'X' is still required on all tabs. Note the 'X' on the far right will close the current editor. I realize this is a hidden feature, but do not know how to convey this information yet. Ctrl-click is good enough only as a workaround. This is definitely a loss of function, and should be restored to the way it used to be. On second thought, the new behavior with the X on the far right seems pretty resonable. It takes getting used to, but is definitely sensible. I'd like to have the close button back in the tab because it was easy to close the editor I want to close: just a simple click and the editor was closed. Now I have to click 2 times. 1st select the editor to close + 2nd click the close button. IMHO this aggravates the usability very, very much. The look might be better, but the usability should be higher rated than the look. Another problem might be that the close button could be interpreted as "close all" button. An alternative to the close button inside the tab may also be possible. Bug 27767 adress this. Reopening to gather user feedback on the close box change. Fixed in 20021213. The close box on the far right was removed, the individual close boxes on the tabs reinstated. In addition the pulldown is now optional, default is off. Window>Preferences>Workbench>Editors to turn change settings. |
