Drag and drop of detached views could use some polish. I think google chrome does it perfectly.

Its mostly just drag feedback. While on a detached view, if you start dragging it, the window will disappear, and the drag feedback will be a shadow copy (thumbnail) of the contents of the view (without the trim). Then if you start positioning the view into the main window, instead of just a box, you値l give a preview (instead of just a rectangle outline) what would happen if you completed the drag at the moment in time. This will show view already in place (including view contents.) Just to kick it home and make it super polished, chrome animates the tab re-layout.

Eclipse already supports shadow copy from trees. The tree item appears as a shadow drag feedback. This would just applies it to views as well.

Marking as enhancement...

When dragging views, Eclipse still shows just their outline in Luna I20140606-1215 (i.e.: no contents drawn in the dragged view, nor live layout changes on the drop target). So this enhancement request is still valid.

I think Bug 393454 describes even more issues with DnD. I mark this one as duplicate of it, as this describes a very special case.
