Description Rodrigo Geve CLA 2002-11-26 16:05:41 EST
Overview Description:

The 'Restore Defaults' action in the Preferences dialog under
'Workbench > Appearance' does not restore the default settings
for 'Editor tab positions', and 'View tab positions'.

Pressing the 'Restore Defaults' button resets the toggle buttons
for the respective options to the 'default' values, but upon
returning to the Preferences dialog after either selecting 'OK' or
'Apply' + 'OK', the option toggle buttons are not set to the
   'restored values'.

NOTE: Manually changing the values of the 'Editor' and 'View' tab
positions to the default values does result in the 'default' values
being set upon returning to the Preferences dialog, after selecting
   'OK'.

Steps to recreate:

  1. Open the Preferences dialog, and select Workbench and
       'Appearance'
  2. Change the 'Editor tab positions' to 'bottom', and the
       'View tab positions' to 'bottom'.
  3. Select the 'OK' button, and restart the Eclipse workbench
  4. NOTE that any Editor windows have their 'tabs' displayed on
the bottom of the Editor window, and views have their tabs
      on the bottom as well.
  5. Open the Preferences dialog, and select 'Workbench >
       Appearance'.
  6. Press the 'Restore Defaults' button, and select 'Apply' + 'OK'
  7. Open the Preferences dialog, and select 'Workbench > Appearance'
  8. !Bug!: Note that the values of 'Editor tab positions'
and 'View tab positions' are still 'bottom' / 'bottom'.
  9. Press the 'Restore Defaults' button, and select 'Apply' + 'OK'
  10. Restart the Eclipse workbench
  11. !Bug!: Note that the Editor and View tab positions remain on
        the bottom!

This has been retested in Eclipse 2.1 build 200302061700. The fix has been
verified and accepted.
