Whiteboard:

Description Nick Boldt CLA 2009-04-08 01:20:37 EDT
http://help.eclipse.org/ganymede/index.jsp?topic=/org.eclipse.pde.doc.user/tasks/pde_fetch_phase.htm states that the following is valid syntax:

plugin@org.eclipse.ve=CVS,tag=HEAD,cvsRoot=:pserver:anonymous@dev.eclipse.org:/cvsroot/tools,path=org.eclipse.ve/plugins/org.eclipse.ve

However, there's no mention that this syntax is equally valid:

plugin@org.eclipse.ve=HEAD,pserver:anonymous@dev.eclipse.org:/cvsroot/tools,org.eclipse.ve/plugins/org.eclipse.ve

... except that what you end up fetching from CVS is /cvsroot/tools/org.eclipse.ve, not /cvsroot/tools/org.eclipse.ve/plugins/org.eclipse.ve !

Furthermore, there's no mention of the fact that in order to retrieve from a subfolder, you need a SECOND comma between root and path:

plugin@org.eclipse.ve=HEAD,pserver:anonymous@dev.eclipse.org:/cvsroot/tools,,org.eclipse.ve/plugins/org.eclipse.ve

Having just lost two days fighting with this problem (and trying all sorts of unrelated fixes) I'm marking this Major just for the sheer annoyance factor.

Please update the documentation to save others this headache.

Andrew, can you please take care of this one. Don't think I am sure what I must writing for this one.

I don't understand the "PDE build advanced topics" help either. At least not enough to start making changes. Reassigning to Andrew.
Comment 3 Andrew Niefer CLA 2009-05-13 19:16:32 EDT
doc changes are being assigned to RC4 to help separate them from code changes
Comment 4 Andrew Niefer CLA 2009-05-25 15:30:11 EDT
The docs aren't out of date, the key=value format was introduced in 3.3 and is the preferred format. The docs don't mention the old comma format because we like key=value lists better and the old format should be considered deprecated.

I have added a short note to the docs with the old format.

Did you correct that omission too?
