We ran into a situation in the tests where we hung because the syserr buffer was exhausted. We need to read off the contents to prevent a hang. See http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2000/jw-1229-traps.html

We need to fix this in at least "chmod" and "ln" actions.
