+1 This is a workflow limitation that I run into constantly. It's not frustratingly slow, but it certainly could be faster. I expect Darin would agree. We plan to do suggestion #1 in M5, and are also looking at other places where user needs to get to sites and is not installing. (See bug 232107 and bug 250316) *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 232107 *** |
Consider an install of eclipse with some number of other things installed. Want to add a new repository then check for updates of my currently installed things. Open Install New Software dialog and manage sites to add the new repository. At this point, I'm not really sure the full list of "other things" I want updated, so I prefer not to sort through the available software list. Instead I close the Install New Software dialog and choose Help -> Check for Updates. It would be nice to have a shorter workflow for this. Ideas are: 1) Check for updates -> There is nothing to update. Have a link from this dialog to open the manage sites dialog to add a new repo, then when done, check again for updates. 2) Have a Check for Updates button in the Install New Software dialog. I believe we used to have this, and got rid of it, I think I like (1) better.
