On windows, select Perspective->Save As... then type in "Persp:Work". You get
	an error message that the layout cannot be saved. However, the real problem
	is the invalid ":" character in the name given. 

	If the error message returned from java.io.Exception provides more details,
	it should be made available (maybe via a "details" button).

This is no longer an issue - you can have a : in the perspective name.
