Description Kevin Benton CLA 2008-09-18 16:48:22 EDT
I don't understand why I can only choose "Stack Trace" from the Detector in Duplicate Detection. Help should be included that explains how to properly use the detector from the new task page. Right now, I'm filing an Eclipse.org bug from within MyLyn, but I have no way to verify that my bug is a duplicate. All it tells me is "Unable to locate a stack trace in the description text." Fine. I want to know how to define other detectors so MyLyn effectively does an advanced search of keywords from my issue summary and/or description.

Okay - I saw the Wiki page describing Automatic Duplicate Detection which says...

The Search for Duplicates button on the New Repository Task editor encourages and facilitates finding similar bug reports before creating a new one. Potential duplicates are displayed in the Search view which can be used to open a bug and comment or vote if a duplicate is found. The current duplicate detection mechanism uses stack traces, either automatically inserted by the Report as Bug mechanism, or manually pasted into the Description area. All descriptions and comments of bugs on the corresponding repository are included in the search.

Again - this help at the duplicate detection screen would really make it easier to understand, especially if there were instructions on how to create new detectors. :-)

Perhaps when only one detector is installed the combo control should be eliminated and a short tooltip present explaining the feature?

I agree that this should be improved. It would be nice if duplicate detection was also supported based on key words and not just stack traces.

UI wise I would prefer to move this out of the main editor pain and put it into the task editor footer for instance (bug 266600).

Mylyn has been restructured, and our issue tracking has moved to GitHub [1].

We are closing ~14K Bugzilla issues to give the new team a fresh start. If you feel that this issue is still relevant, please create a new one on GitHub.
