Description Jed Anderson CLA 2002-10-14 15:47:09 EDT
I've talked with a few folks on #eclipse about migrating projects they have created in other IDEs
into Eclipse. The problem is that they import a project using CVS, but it does not contain a
.project file. So the project is not recognized as a Java project.

It would be helpful for them
if we had a "Convert to Java project" option somewhere similar to the "Convert to PDE project" we
currently have.

However, using this approache everybody would end up contributing a
"Convert to X" menu item. So I don't have a good solution. Other ideas?

The original idea was that you can check/uncheck natures (a.k.a. 'capabilities')
on the project's property page.
I don't know whats the state of capabilities is. I hope they are still on the
2.1 plan.

Moving to Platform-UI.

I'm sure this would be a nice enhancement. BTW, lots of people are coming from
other IDEs to the Eclipse World.

What's the problem with some menu named "Convert to Java Project"?
