Description Colin Goldberg CLA 2002-09-13 15:23:19 EDT
(I am a newbie - please excuse any errors in terminology)

Version 2.0.1 - Win NT4

The (text) editor view (upper right rectangle, with "Welcome" in the title on
startup) does not display properly.

The heading "Eclipse Platform" appears correctly. After this, the following is
displayed (Each -> below represents an arrow icon which is displayed):

T
T

-> I
   T
   a

-> P
   A
   a

   T
   b
   i

-> C
   Y
   a
   T

   O
   Y
   y
   a
   f

(etc..)

It looks like display width = 1 ...

(Sorry I cannot be more articulate. I could send a gif which shows the display,
if needed.)

WelcomeEditor. Moved to Platform UI.

Which build were you using (Help -> About Eclipse).
I have not been able to reproduce the issue on any platform. Are you still
experiencing the problem?

Did you overwrite an existing eclipse installation? Do you remember which
version you downloaded? The timestamp of the files in the eclipse directory
may be helpfull here.

When downloading new versions of eclipse, do not overwrite an existing
installation.
Comment 7 Colin Goldberg CLA 2002-10-01 14:17:40 EDT
The directory was emptied before the new release was installed.

I installed eclipse R2.0.1 (Thu, 29 Aug 2002 -- 18:28 (-0400)) on Win NT4.0
with no issues.

Assuming you have decoupled your workspace from your eclipse install directory
I would recommand re-installing (rename old eclipse directory). Use the -data
option on the command line to point to your workspace. For example:

d:\ide\eclipse -vm d:\jdk\ibm\jdk1.3.1\jre\bin\java -data d:\ide\workspace-
R2.0.1 -showlocation

The -showlocation will place the location of your workspace in the title bar.

If you could provide more information on how you reproduced this problem I can
investigate further. From what I can tell a clean installation works fine.
