The preference for what happens when you open a new perspective messes with 
your mind
because it changes the meaning of Shift and Alt.  I understand you'ld like to 
reuse these,
but I suspect it introduces a pretty wierd usability problem.  This only works 
if you believe you'll
only ever change this setting ONCE in your life, otherwise you have to remember 
that the keys
now do something different.

People get used to what hot keys do and then they pick them automatically.  
Changing their meaning
forces them to retrain this automatic action.
