Description Matthew Hall CLA 2008-04-01 14:04:31 EDT
Prior to 3.4M6 (p2) I have been able to install WindowBuilderPro by adding an extension folder in Window -> Software Update -> Manage Configuation. With M6 I am no longer able to do so:

http://downloads.instantiations.com/WBPro/continuous/latest/WBPro_v6.6.0_for_Eclipse3.3.zip

After unzipping the archive to a local folder I can add that folder as an extension site in the Available Features of the p2 dialog. However when I try select "Window Builder Pro Feature" and click Install, the Progress Information: Resolving Dependencies dialog appears and never terminates. Clicking Cancel has no effect.

I attempted to use the dropins folder as well, however in this case the splash screen appears and never terminates. I am not prompted to select a workspace, and the progress bar never apprs.

In both cases I've checked the workspace .log and no messages are emitted relating to p2 or WindowBuilder.

Thanks for the thread dump - that really helps.
It looks like we "might" be not really stuck here and are just mired in the planner and possibly thrashing memory. We're doing performance work now that could help. see bug 224579

Any news on this one? I let it try to start up for 20+ minutes and it never completes. It always shows it hung in Eclipse code. M6a doesn't seem to resolve it either.

This works fine for me in last week I build. The problem probably resulted from our encoding of the optionality that we had in M6 and this has been fixed in early M7.

Confirmed fixed in 3.4M7. Thanks!

Eric, I think that to make the install experience better for your users you should look into creating an update site with p2 metadata on it (http://wiki.eclipse.org/Equinox_p2_Metadata_Generator).
Comment 7 Eric Clayberg CLA 2008-05-13 22:55:52 EDT
We do plan to do that for our Eclipse 3.4 version.

Note that we also support Eclipse 2.1 (WSAD 5.1), 3.0 (RAD 6), 3.1, 3.2 (RAD 7) and 3.3. ;-)
