Currently if a project is created as a generic project, for whatever reason, there appears to no proper way to convert it to a Java project. There is the following work around:

It would be useful to be able to convert a generic project to specialised project.   Maybe putting this under the 'refactor' menu, when clicking on the project:

   Refactor > Convert Project...

This would bring up a dialogue presenting the conversion options.

Sounds kind of like bug 102527 in a way.
