Patch with changes.

With fix for bug 209883 in platform DSF view model contexts no longer need to implement the IVariable interface in order to interoperate with the expressions view correctly.  This cleans up the implementation somewhat.

I'm submitting a patch with needed changes, but it needs to be applied after the build switches to platform 3.4 M5 build because the patch uses a new interface in platform.
