I filter the Package Explorer to hide everything except non-java files and .*
files so I can use it to easily find message.properties files and other config
files. If I check out a Java project from dev.eclipse.org over an existing
binary project, the view does not update to show the appropriate elements in
the checked out project. I must open the Filter dialog for the view and click
OK to get the project to appear.

I tried to reproduce and this seems to work in 3.2. Please reopen if I'm wrong, maybe I has the wrong steps.
