Hello,

my proposal/wish concerns the abbreviation of package names
(Window/Preferences/Java/Appearance/Compress all package name segments, except the final segment)

In my opinion it would make sense to skip the beginning of a package, but leave the rest unchanged, because according to the specification a package always begins with the company's domain name, which should always be known, but the rest is not always in mind.

So, it would be nice to be able to configure one or more entries of packages, that should be truncated at the beginning.

For example:
An additional option in the above mentioned Preferences section:
"Hide the following start names of packages:"
with an input field, that accepts a comma separated list of strings, e. g.:
com.dbvwinterthur, org.eclipse
All packages starting with "com.dbvwinterthur" or "org.eclipse" could then abbreviated to "~.<rest of package>"

An alternative could be, to declare a set of regular expressions and how they should be treated.

Thanks and a great compliment for the Eclipse IDE!
Horst Gernhardt

That is a very long standing issue, see bug #22208
