Description Benjamin Pasero CLA 2007-10-25 09:45:08 EDT
When Eclipse is restoring Editors after startup, only the input for the currently visible Editor is loaded for performance reasons. Any other Editor stacked behind is shown with the generic Icon of the Editor and the name of the last input.

Now, in my RCP application the icon of the editor changes depending on the contents of the input. So, only a single editor is registered in the plugin.xml with a default icon. Now, the problem is that after restart, all editors that are not yet loaded show the wrong icon (the generic one and not the specific one indicating the content of the input).

Of course I dont want Eclipse to load the full editor input on startup only to determine the right icon, however, since the name of the editor is already correct without loading the input, I would expect to also get the right icon to be restored without loading the input.

There should be a way to override this behavior. What about having a special key for the memento in IEditorInput#getPersistable() that contains the path to the icon that is to be shown for the unrestored editor of this input?

But maybe I am overseeing something here and what I request is already possible?

Ben

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
