I am still trying to deduce this problem, but here is how I think you can reproduce this issue:

1) edit a java method until it becomes a landmark (this method needs to have an inner class or some other child)
2) edit some other files until that original landmark is decays out of interest
3) select the child of the method from 1
4) see that the parent returns when the interest is propagated, but it is a landmark again.
