Bug 203299

Summary: [MinMax] Accessibility - cannot restore view using same keystrokes used to minimize view
Product: [Eclipse Project] Platform Reporter: Jamie Liu <liuj1>
Component: UIAssignee: Eric Moffatt <emoffatt>
Status: RESOLVED INVALID QA Contact:
Severity: normal
Priority: P3 CC: pwebster, raji
Version: 3.2.2
Target Milestone: ---
Hardware: PC
OS: Windows XP
Whiteboard:

Description Jamie Liu CLA 2007-09-13 12:04:17 EDT
Build ID: M20070212-1330

Steps To Reproduce:
1. Launch Eclipse
2. With focus on a view, press Alt+- to bring up system menu
3. Select "Minimize"
4. Press Alt+- again, and system menu for a different view (the newly activated one) appears. There is no way to bring up the system menu for the view that was just minimized, and thus, no way to restore that view using the same mechanism.

More information:
Users can use Ctrl+F7 to restore the view, but they might not know that keystroke. Since they used "Alt+-" to bring up the system menu for the view, they expect to be able to use the same menu to restore the view.

I would imagine that's because ALT+- is "show system menu for the active part".

It has nothing to do with minimize or maximize

We are consistent with how e.g. MS Windows handles minimizing a window to the task bar. ALT-Space opens the window's menu from which you can select "Minimize". Doing this activates another window - the keyboard focus does not go to the task bar.

Jamie, it don't think it's a requirement to restore the view using the -same- mechanism. My understanding is that we have to have a keyboard mechanism to allow it but in this case I'd agree with Paul that the 'Alt -' is the 'show system menu' command.

So.. is this a WONTFIX?

Comment 5 Eric Moffatt CLA 2008-11-19 14:51:14 EST
Raji, thanks for the 'ping'. I think, given the comments, that I will indeed mark this as INVALID (that only means that we don't consider it a bug at all, just a mis-understanding as to the operation).
