Description Nobody - feel free to take it CLA 2007-09-12 09:43:53 EDT
So I received another phone call today inquiring about support for Eclipse. While we don't often get these calls, we still do get them.

I'm proposing a simple page located at www.eclipse.org/support that says something like
<begin page>

The Eclipse foundation does not provide support for any of the software provided. We do however provide support for issues with our website and services offered to committers and member companies.

If you would like support for Eclipse software please try the newsgroups. Or you could also try the following companies who provide support on a pay basis

<list of companies here>

Thanks and Good Luck!

<end page>

I love the "good luck" part.

Some of this is captured in the FAQ, but it might not be a bad idea to separate it out into it's own area.

We can include pointers to the newsgroup, FAQs, bugzilla, and Wiki. We can also include links to member companies that provide services and support.

Do you envision a link in the main menu bar? Or just a link of the main page?

+1 for a link in the main menu bar and all the other ideas in your comment. The support page should become *the* new landing page for everybody that needs help.

Maybe not in the first run, but the list of companies could be database/feed driven and rotating.

Doesn't EPIC have a services section we could leverage?

Yes. We should use that.

I wonder if we can add this to Nathan's list for Q4...

By this do you mean the DB driven part to display service providers or the entire page?

I suppose that I can put together the bulk of the page if you can add in the service providers.

Where are we at with this bug? Still planning on doing this?

I added a Support blurb to the contact us page, since that's likely where folks are getting the idea that they can call us:
