To reproduce run some task search (Ctrk-H) that produced over 5000 (max limit) search hits. Then run some other search that produces smaller number of hits. After that, if you try to click on "Show previous searches" drop down in the Search view. You get a popup dialog "Max allowed number of hits returned..." which just blocks switching to the other searches. The only way to clean that up is to restart workbench, which is quite annoying.

I think there should be no popup like that, but this warning should be shown in a view status area instead.

This is not a blocker, please reivew the Eclipse use of bug severties: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/bug_status.html#bug_severity

This is not a common case (minor loss of function) and has an easy work-around (restart). Marking normal instead of minor because restarting is very annoying.

I guess for me, anything that require to restart long running process is not a minor loss of functionality. More over that popup can appear more then multiple times and I think I saw it blocking the UI, which required to kill the process and wait for the full rebuild to complete, which may lead to the 1/2 interruption.

If necessary can be fixed post 3.0

Not sure when this was fixed but the error is only displayed once with Mylyn 3.7 and does not block interaction when switching to previous searches any longer.
