Description Nick Boldt CLA 2007-07-26 18:21:43 EDT
This is a question, really. Should we list update sites there so that it's easier for people to find them?
Comment 1 Bjorn Freeman-Benson CLA 2007-07-26 21:16:26 EDT
Yes we should. And when bug 134275 is fixed, it will include update sites.
Comment 2 Nick Boldt CLA 2007-09-25 14:23:31 EDT
You are in a maze of twisty passages, all alike. On the ground in front of you is a page covered in webs. Ahead, you see a bug.
> Examine bug

The bug, numbered bug 134275, appears dead. It is lying on its back with its legs in the air, CLOSED around its torso.
> Look at page

The web-covered page lists all the Eclipse projects, and bears the title "http://www.eclipse.org/projects/".
>Examine page

On closer inspection, you notice that data is missing (such as newgroup and mailing list links for EMF, MDT and M2T) from the webbed page.
> Search page for updates

You see no updates listed on the page.
> Damn!

Agreed. Something is certainly amiss.

Ha! That was classic. I'm sure we can update the projects page to display update sites. However the missing data (such as newgroup and
> mailing list links for EMF, MDT and M2T) needs to be updated by the Project Lead or PMC for those projects and is done through the portal. When the data shows up then all will be well with the world.

Your score has gone up by 1. Your new rank is grue-fodder.
> inventory

You are holding the following items: Pointy Stick, Wand of Delegation, Portal Key.
> Examine Portal Key

The Portal Key allows you access to the Portal, but as you are only ranked grue-fodder, you cannot update web-covered pages yourself.
> Examine Wand of Delegation

The Wand of Delegation allows higher ranked adventurers, such as Penultimate Magickal Clerics, or PMCs, to grant you access to new Portal spells, such as Metadata Update. Since you are not a PMC, you cannot use this item. It is also possible that this item is only in your imagination, not in your inventory.
> Examine Pointy Stick

The Pointy Stick is a 1D2 weapon with no magickal properties. It can be used to prod PMCs into performing magickal acts for you, but there is no guarantee it will work.
> Damn!

Damn, indeed.

Use Pointy Stick.

Pointy Stick injures the ego of programmer. Fortunately, an injured ego does not prevent him from modifying the /projects/ page.

Examine Portal.

You are still grue-fodder. But there is a keyhole in door.

Examine Keyhole.

Through the keyhole, you see the future: a portal user interface that allows the entry of "updatesiteurl".

Go Future.

Sorry, but the future cannot be hurried. Please wait while the portal code is deployed.

Open Door.

Door swings open to a brave new world in which modifying the project meta-data using the portal is easier than before.

Go Forward.

You trip and fall. Apparently the brave new world is only better than before, but not perfect. Perfection is deemed impossible.

> Look

You are in a maze of twisty passages, all alike. On the floor is a piece of paper.
> Examine paper

You can't see that from here.
> Pick up paper

You reach down and retrieve the paper. It's a disclaimer card for Your Life, the game you're currently playing.
>Examine paper

The disclaimer reads:
"Congratulation on your purchase. We hope you will enjoy Your Life, despite its frustrating nature at times. Note that Your Life is not perfect, but may approach perfection if you are willing to compromise on quality, sleep, or health. Drugs help too. Oh, and as always, _Your_mileage_may_vary._ Have a nice day, and don't forget your towel."
> Give up

Are you sure you want to quit? Your Life is not yet over, and your score is a paltry 1 out of a possible infinite points. Would you like to take a nap instead?
