In the plugin import wizard, on the 2nd page, you can type in a pattern for filtering the list of plugins.

The way it works is to select those that match the pattern. This is different than say the first page of other wizards such as New->Other or File->Import, filtering in preferences, Ctnrl-3, etc, where it trims the list down to only those matching the filter. This seems the usual approach to filtering.

I suppose the PDE import wizard has the advantage that if the pattern matches the plugins you want, they are already selected so you can just press "Existing Plug-ins >". The downside is that:

1) It works differently than the other places that come to mind

2) A typical way of dealing with large lists is to filter to get you down to a manageable subset and the either refine the filter pattern more or just hunt out the ones you want from this smaller list. That's not possible in this case because the assumption seems to be that the filter will match those you wanted. Since it doesn't reduce the list size, its more difficult to determine the filter matched the ones you want.

Perhaps it should be logged as a separate bug, but also I noticed that if you clear the search pattern (to be an empty string) then the selection isn't cleared (you still have whatever last matched as selected).

Kevin, isn't this essentially the same bug as the one you opened a month ago? (bug 194121)

If so, will you continue opening bugs regarding the same issue until it gets resolved? :)

I like Kevin bugs, it's just like he discovered PDE a couple months ago :)

Keep it alive Kevin :P

D'oh! Well at least I'm consistent!

And I LOVE PDE! :) I just have fresh eyes on it.
