Move to JDT/UI Moving fields is not a refactoring, just a textual operation. Sorry, ignore my previous comment This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. Build ID: I20070608-1718 Steps To Reproduce: Pull up field g on the following: public class A { private boolean f; class B extends C { boolean g=new A().f; } } class C { private boolean f; } Yields the following refactored code: public class A { private boolean f; class B extends C { } } class C { private boolean f; boolean g = new A().f; } The compilation error is: "The field A.f is not visible" More information:
