Description Krishna Venkatraman CLA 2007-06-18 18:07:20 EDT
A report such as an Employee report may allow an end user to supply numerous report parameters such as first name, last name, telephone extension, office location amongst many others. Based on the values supplied by the end user the Employee report would filter the records fetched from the database using only those parameters that the end user supplied and ignoring other "unsupplied" parameters. In order to meet this requirement in BIRT currently, the report developer needs to utilize scripting. This project explores providing ad-hoc dataset parameters which in most respects behave like regular dataset parameters. They differ in that they do not have default values and if a value is not specified when a report is run then they are not used in filtering the rows fetched from a data source. Additionally, the user can specify multiple items for a single parameter. For example, the user can request all Employees located in the US or Canada.
