Description Eugene Kuleshov CLA 2007-05-27 06:26:50 EDT
New Task and New Repository Task editors UI is quite different and really need to be streamlined.

Most notable differences are the "Personal Planning" section, absence of "Summary" label in new task editor and the color of labels.

Also, both editors are quite wide and taking too much screen real estate.

new editors

Here is the current look of those editors. I couldn't make them any narrower without horizontal scrollbar.
Comment 2 Mik Kersten CLA 2007-05-27 08:51:00 EDT
Yes, this is something that I have been waiting for us to do as part of merging local and repository tasks.
Comment 3 Eugene Kuleshov CLA 2007-05-27 13:58:32 EDT
I would say it is an usability fix and not an enhancement.

BTE, I really like

Estimated hours: [ ] X

vs

"Estimated: [ ] hours"

especially the handy "X" button up there.

Anyways, is converting local tasks into the repository is on the table for 2.0?
Comment 4 Mik Kersten CLA 2007-06-11 18:40:19 EDT
Rob: this will be part of our local/repository task merge.
Comment 5 Mik Kersten CLA 2007-06-21 17:21:15 EDT
Will still do minor UI improvements, but for 2.0 the design won't change.

Need to defer: http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Mylyn/3.0_Plan#Deferred_Items
Comment 7 Mik Kersten CLA 2008-06-16 12:49:15 EDT
Steffen: is this now a duplicate of our plan to merge the Planning and Bugzilla pages?
Comment 8 Steffen Pingel CLA 2008-06-16 18:21:58 EDT
I am not sure. We will still need an editor for local tasks that is separate from repository editors.
Comment 9 Mik Kersten CLA 2008-06-16 21:26:33 EDT
I think that it would be great to merge these editors for Mylyn 3.1 and get rid of the custom editor for local tasks. Please consider closing this as WONTFIX and making a new bug for having only one editor for us to streamline and debug :)
Comment 10 Steffen Pingel CLA 2008-06-17 18:45:02 EDT
I'll consider this for 3.1. This could be tricky though: The editors currently use different data models. Task editors uses task data whereas the planning editor operates directly on AbstractTask. We need to investigate implementing a common abstraction that will also support the rich text extensions.

Comment 12 Steffen Pingel CLA 2008-11-04 21:40:57 EST
Reopening, we will still need a local task editor for non repository tasks.
Comment 13 Steffen Pingel CLA 2008-11-04 21:45:52 EST
The task editor extension support in AbstractRichtTextAttributeEditor should be generalized for reuse by the local task editor.
Comment 14 Mik Kersten CLA 2009-05-28 22:41:07 EDT
It looks like we're done here! We now use the same editor and have streamlined the layout.
