Description Jochen Krause CLA 2007-05-23 18:00:10 EDT
The packaging project is building packages for different developer types, e.g. Java Developer, Java Enterprise Developer, Eclipse SDK Developer ...

It has been requested to integrate an XML editor in some of the packages, without integrating all of WST.

WTP also provides the granularity of features that would allow to install xml editing, but the relevant features (xml.core, xml.ui) are not exposed to the update site of webtools (or europa). As the packaging project is building packages from the content provided on the projects update sites this is preventing us from building the desired packages.

AFAIK there are three features for the XML stuff (WST XML UI, WST XML Core, and WST XML User Documentation) - these should be referenced from a site.xml (or at least the top-level feature WST XML UI).

Is this still required? I've been working on it, under bug 176492 not realizing there was this separate one. Apologies for that.

But, I notice on your RC2 EPP Site (http://www.eclipse.org/epp/download.php)
you already say, under RCP Developmenet,
<quote>
It includes a complete SDK with source code and additionally an XML editor and helpful features from the Mylar project.
</quote>
Did you somehow "snag" our XML Editor already ... or, decide on another?

I answered by own question ... downloading and looking. It appears you are using all of WST, and your point it you'd prefer to get a smaller chunk ... so, I think it is still required. Thanks.

You are right with you own answer ;-)

We worked around it but having XML separately available would be great.

I didn't know of the other bug report...

As Jochen wrote: It would be very nice to split the XML editor into a separate feature and it is still required. You found our 'workaround' which includes all of WST.

Having a separate XML editor feature would result in smaller packages, and it would lead to a better end user experience: A pure Java programmer or someone using PDE doesn't want to see specialized views for servers, ... - but they do want to edit XML.

fixed in RC3

Verified, Closing.
