Description Andreas Goetz CLA 2007-05-13 07:44:06 EDT
Build ID: I20070503-1400

Steps To Reproduce:
I'd like to sort my Mylar repository tasks by bug id in descending order. Clicking the summary column sorts ascending- clicking a second time doesn't change the sort order as expected.
I'm wondering if
a) clicking twice could/should reverse sort order or
b) the bug id (which sems to exist consistently in bugzilla, sf.net, mantis) should be exposed as separate column, possibly with sort mode per repository type (e.h. numeric vs. alphanumeric)?

Please note that columns and column headings are gone from the new Task List rendering, and sorting is done via the view menu. So we can now add any sorting order that you would like to that view menu. Once you have tried it just let us know what the order you would like is along with the use case (as in description). Dev build sites are listed at:

Yuck- hadn't seen that one before. Not sure why you switched the component, but usability for sorting is not as good as before. Enhancement requests are the same, too:

- support descending sort order for issue number/ summary (high prio)
- support separate (possibly configurable) sorting by issue number and repository
- support sorting be creation/last update date, possibly across different repositories

last but not least:

- expand/ collaps section when doubleclicking on the header- the + sign is just too small

Thanks,
Andi

A summary of why the component was switched is in the New & Noteworthy: http://www.eclipse.org/mylar/doc/new.php A full discussion is on bug 182772. Regarding sortying, the decision was that making sorting be two clicks was worth the additional horizontal space and de-cluttering of columns.

We can certainly add descending sorting, but could you please provide the use case? E.g. is it just a work-around for wanting most recently-filed bugs on top? If that's the case we should add "Sort by -> Date Created" instead.

Expand/collapse is bug 182398. Please add your comment or vote to that.

Regarding custom sorting, please add a new bug. Note that now that it should be easy to add new sorters patches so we are encouraging patches for any specific use cases you may have, since those could be relevant to others too.

Mik, I am also missing descending sorting. It provides a consistent view for most recent issues.

BTW, I'd say that sorting options probably should be in the popup menu and not view menu... Other Eclipse views do that. See some Search variants and Synchronize view.

I agree. Most recent bugs on top is natural. I personally would never have expected the sorting in the view menu. For additional detail ideas see comment 1.
Comment 6 Mik Kersten CLA 2007-05-17 11:48:04 EDT
I added "Sort by -> Date Created". Note that for Bugzilla this is effectively the same as "Sort by -> Summary" due to the int IDs. Do you guys want "Sort by -> Date Modified"? If so please let me know now because we will need to add that field to the common repository task schema. Note that the changes aren't committed yet because I'm having problems with Eclipse CVS.

Regarding putting sorting on the popup menu, please add a comment to bug 176639.

Please open new bugs for any any specific requests for addition sort orders.
