Meghan: there may already be another bug that I filed for this? hmm, I thought so too but I can't find one right now. How does this page look? http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~meghana/usageSummary.html I think the top 25 commands is more reasonable than the top 100, what do you guys think. The table will be even more useful once bug 181802 is done (remove WorkbenchWindow commands). Let me know if you have feedback on the current page, I'll submit a patch tomorrow if I don't hear from anyone so that it can be ready for Friday. (In reply to comment #2) > hmm, I thought so too but I can't find one right now. > How does this page look? > http://www.cs.ubc.ca/~meghana/usageSummary.html It is a good start. We may need to tweak it, i.e. show how many users actually used each command/view. > I think the top 25 commands is more reasonable than the top 100, what do you > guys think. The table will be even more useful once bug 181802 is done (remove > WorkbenchWindow commands). I think that 181802 need to be fixed soon, or we need to find out if actions like this org.eclipse.ui.internal.WorkbenchWindow@19521418 can actually provide some useful information. Without that, it is hard to say how many numbers should be in that page, because all top hits are scattered within quite small percentage range (even in your example report) Yes, great start Meghan, please do submit a patch. I agree on the priority of bug 181802. I'll take a look at it now because it might be a very quick fix. Created attachment 66773 [details]
adds command usage and uses tables to display the data
This patch makes the page look a bit nicer (uses HTML tables and headings, etc.), includes the 'last modified date' and add the data about the top N (currently 25) commands.
Patch applied. Looks like we're done here? I think so. Great stuff Meghan! I forgot to add the <html> and <body> tags, so the browser inside Eclipse doesn't display it properly. Created attachment 66789 [details]
display correctly in the Eclipse browser now
Added the opening <html> and <body> tags, and the closing </html> and </body> tags so that it will display properly within the Eclipse browser.
I have also copied this over to mylar.eclipse.org so now when you click "View Community Statistics" on the UI Usage Report it uses the new format. Excellent, patch applied. Meghan: is there anything left to do before we are ready to unleash this on the Mylar user community? The only nit I have left is the too-small size of the perspective and view usage HTML sections in the editor. Yes, I agree that the only thing left is fixing those parts of the UI Usage Report. I will do that asap on bug 179813. Done. Can we please increase number of shown stats? The editor commands are at the top of the list now and that is too obvious and not very useful information. Same issue stands for views, top 10 bring up obvious ones and don't allow to see the real juice. BTW, I still see org.eclipse.ui.internal.WorkbenchWindow@xxxxx commands in the result. |
