Bug 182658

Summary: [OLE] Menu Mnemonics Don't Work in OLE In-Place Editors
Product: [Eclipse Project] Platform Reporter: Steve Tibbett <stevex-eclipse>
Component: SWTAssignee: Platform-SWT-Inbox <platform-swt-inbox>
Status: CLOSED WONTFIX QA Contact: Felipe Heidrich <eclipse.felipe>
Severity: normal
Priority: P3 CC: snorthov
Version: 3.2.1Keywords: triaged
Target Milestone: ---
Hardware: PC
OS: Windows XP
Whiteboard: stalebug

Description Steve Tibbett CLA 2007-04-16 21:13:26 EDT
Build ID: M20060921-0945

Steps To Reproduce:
1. Launch an OLE in-place editor (something hosted via OleClientSite), like an older version of Word or the Scribble MFC sample.

2. Use the keyboard to open one of the menus that's owned by the OLE application (like the View or Tools menu - not the Window or File meu which is owned by Eclipse)

3. Hit the single letter key to activate a command from that menu.

For example, hit Alt-V, T to toggle the Toolbar in the Scribble sample.

The OLE in-place active editor never receives the WM_COMMAND that it's expecting from that menu action; Eclipse is somehow eating it.

More information:
Menus work from the mouse - what matters is whether the mous or keyboard was used to pop open the menu. If you click the menu bar to expose the menu, you can use the keyboard to choose the item. If you use the keyboard to expose the menu, even if you use the mouse the item won't work.

If you hit Alt, V, T (each separately), does it work?
Comment 2 Steve Tibbett CLA 2007-04-17 15:00:47 EDT
Yes, that works. Interesting!

This is a one-off bulk update. (The last one in the triage migration).

Moving bugs from swt-triaged@eclipse to platform-swt-inbox@eclipse.org and adding "triaged" keyword as per new triage process:

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
