Description Kevin McGuire CLA 2002-05-29 12:39:44 EDT
When using compare, there are three or four sets of arrows:

1. in the main toolbar

2. for the files

3 (optional) for the structurizer

4. for the edit area

This looks a bit overwhelming, but I don't have an alternative for #2-4
(perhaps a post 2.0 investigation issue).

The immediate problem is that I don't know how the user knows which of 2-4 the
arrows in #1 correspond to, especially since it has a different tooltip.

Conceptional model is pretty simple:
- #2-#4: local navigation within pane.
Reaching end does not have an effect on other panes
- #1: global navigation in editor
  coordinated navigation across all panes:
Reaching the end in one pane goes not next resource in another pane

"goes not next" in last line should be: "goes to next"

Post 2.0 investigation issue.

I agree its simple once you are used to it, but I am concerned its confusing
until then. I can't tell anymore what its like to be a new user, so who knows?
I think it would be worth a run through with Julian's usability studies.
Compare is a powerful tool but may be daunting to the uninitiated.
