The title says it all.  Long running entity generation processes leave the user feeling as if nothing is happening.

proposed patch - 1_0_maintenance stream

This gives some basic progress monitor support.  The user is given feedback and the entity generation is run in the background instead of locking up the UI.  This could be further improved with task names and subtasks indicating which entity is being generated, but I didn't take it that far
