Description

The problem is this Wizard by default checks off the box to automatically Task List view, because many users were confused that nothing would happen after they installed Mylar. Do you have a suggestion for how leave the Welcome screen maximized but still prevent the confusion of having nothing happen after you install Mylar? When you install most eclipse plug-ins, the only way you know anything happened is by looking for a new perspective, a new view, a new wizard, etc. I don't see why Mylar should be any different in that regard. Users must simply be educated as to what the plug-ins do and how to activate their functions. I think the ultimate solution would be for the Mylar TaskList view to replace the original Task view and become a default part of the perspectives that use the concept of Tasks. Until then, I think it's a simple matter of user education. The underlying problem is that views are not easily discoverable enough after install (e.g. perspective has to be reset for a new contribution to show). So while I agree that we need to do something about this for the case of a fresh install, I'd like to do it in a way that does not compromise the new user's experience after first installing Mylar into an existing workspace. With 3.3 M7 we get a new Welcome page feature where it displays itself when new intro content is added. Pretty cool :) Could this a workable solution that addresses the concerns in this bugzilla? Yes, the new 3.3M7 welcome page will definitely help and is a nice addition. However, Mylar 2.0 will need a solution that works for both 3.2 and 3.3. I think that we'll have to sacrifice some on 3.2 obviousness on this one, so the plan now is just to remove this. Most users should at least know to try Show View -> Other after installing. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 187880 *** Changing OS from Mac OS to Mac OS X as per bug 185991 |
